Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?

Shit ‘n’ shit

Alright so I ain’t dead yet or anythin’. Site may as well be though given how little I ever do with it. Costs too much to even keep the electricity on in this bitch but whatcha gonna do.

Still playing Street Fighter, though I take way too long of breaks between sessions and I’m always mad rusty. Made it to Master as Cammy a while back, not like that means anything though. Been trying Akuma most recently. He’s fun but basically all the DLC characters are in a state of being way too good and way too annoying to fight against. Terry comes out tomorrow and he’s already looking completely fucked up. I’ll try him out a bit.

Also played Space Marine 2 and had a great time with it. I’m a huge 40k fan so it was a Thing for me. I’m not seeing much of a sustainable future for it when the co-op is currently only 6 relatively short levels that you have to replay to fuckin’ death and the PvP is unfortunately the most bare bones shit ever. I can’t see a big crowd staying with it for too long. The thing it has going for it though, is the customization. That is a MASSIVE thing for Warhammer fans. Being able to create and customize your own space marines is fucking great and I think if I were the devs I would be throwing an overwhelming amount of my time into specifically the customization, and making damn sure that Chaos marines also get the same level of customization that loyalist marines do.

Oh, and I guess totally overhaul the PvP to make it interesting and get people to actually play it. Your gameplay needs a HOOK – Gears of War was an insane success when it launched because the movement and gunplay were intensely satisfying and had a rock/paper/scissors aspect to them that was both fun to play and rewarded skill, strategy, and reactions. SM2 is just the most basic third person shooter with little to no movement gimmicks, extremely simple and direct gunplay, and the PvP modes are all just tired shit like king of the hill and deathmatch. You need something more interesting to hook people and keep them playing and learning and improving.

That being said, I really do fucking love the game and it’s about time that a really solid 40k video game like this was done. It could just use a little seasoning. Now that it’s out and done and making a profit, I feel like the devs should just take some time without any pressure or deadlines, put it back in the oven a little longer, play around with the formula, see what they can add.

Anyway, that’s what I been at. I do have plans to do another little video project soon but I ain’t got an ETA there. Just when time and my own boredom allows.

  • Whoa, has it really been almost a year? Still playing SF6? Yeah, that seems right for DLC anything really. Power creep and whatever is inevitable I guess. I’m still playing old games I’ve done already too and I need to stop. Stagnancy is terrible. For me though it’s Star Renegades (hard turnbased rogue rpg), but I began Prey and Ghost of Tsushima and a smattering of others for variety.

I do think you overestimate gamers though. They are very easily pleased and tricked by skinner boxes, and the industry caters to them. One of the reasons gaming quality has been so low for a decade at least. So I think Space Marine will last a long time, especially considering how big that fandom is, but I haven’t played it myself. Seems meaty and good though; usually games that can offer everything (separate co-op, vs, and single player modes) are high quality if my memory serves although I’m blanking on examples except like Nioh or something. And I feel games never improve in the way you say Space Marine 2 needs. At least, I can’t think of an example. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you and they should, but I’m pessimistic it would happen.

Have you seen Masahiro Sakurai’s youtube channel about making games? Interesting stuff but one in particular was relevant to what you said. I think he said that like, anything after launch is basically a gift, that they aren’t obligated to fix anything. Surprised me to hear him saying something so awful, if I’m recalling that correctly too.

Man, can’t believe another year. I really miss hearing SA Renegade’s voice too, but we all gotta grow up sometime and games aren’t everything, and they seem to get more tiresome rather than creative and fun. I’m trying to change hobbies myself. Hope you are both well.
