I’m Back, Bitches.
It has been more than three years since Scathing Accuracy started, and without getting too sentimental I can honestly say I am proud of every day this site has been running. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned since August 2008, it’s this;
Climpa cannot write for shit.
I’ve written a few reviews, I’ve contributed some video content and guides, but for the most part I have done very little compared to the others – with the exception of Wiggy – and for that reason I feel like I’ve done a disservice to everyone. That’s not to say I haven’t written things, there are more discarded reviews and blog posts in my recycle bin than I care to think about, but I always get 3/4 of the way through something and put it aside for later only to forget about it due to lack of proper motivation.
When we first set up ScathingAccuracy over 3 years ago, we often talked about how it was going to be our place to just talk about games. Nothing special, no grand ambitions or sinister motives, just some place to do or say whatever we wanted. At some point the concept of putting our own content up here was discussed. I’m not sure why exactly, as none of us have any experience in game development, but regardless it’s something I’ve had in the back of my head ever since. And I mean who hasn’t? Ignoring that it’s horrible to start a sentence with “and”, anyone who responds to that question with “not me” is probably lying through their teeth; Unless they have none, in which case they are lying through their gums.
As mentioned previously, none of us have any experience in game development, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for aspirations right? Over the last few years I’ve picked up and toyed around with several of the more simple engines and amateur game development programs, but a little while back I finally sat down and taught myself how to use Adventure Game Studio using a fantastic series of YouTube videos. There have been a few stops and starts at small projects just to teach myself the basics, and even one or two grander projects that were started and killed off, and ultimately it has always come down to the same reasons, lack of motivation.
But no more, I’m now taking a two birds with one stone approach to casual game development and contributing to ScathingAccuracy. It is my intention to start making an adventure game whilst at the same time chronicling its creation here. The drive to post updates will hopefully motivate me to continue working on the game, and working on the game will hopefully result in me posting something, anything, for ScathingAccuracy. Like a twisted, digital, Ouroboros. Hell, Shepton was even nice enough to set up my own section, so as not to clutter the front page too badly. So while bigger updates will be duplicated or summarised in Blogé, the majority of posts will be there.
Well, that’s it then, I’d best get to work.
